In the Beginning:
The idea of launching a website for just girls basketball camps began in 1998. When a New Jersey high school basketball coach was approached by parents inquiring how they could find a camp for their daughter to improve her basketball skills she realized there was no pubished directory on the Internet. Thus began the idea of creating a nation-wide camp locator for the Web at girlsbasketballcamps.com.
The Growing Years:
Initially the website was used for the camps of WNBA star Sheryl Swoopes and Ticha Penicheiro and Women's Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman. It then grew to contain information about camps for university basketball programs and WNBA players such as Sheryl Swoopes, Sue Wicks, Ticha Penichiero, Tari Phillips, and Sue Bird. Later it began to advertise other local camps such as Bob Koch Point Guard Academy and New Jersey's Kristen Somogyi as well as other camps in various states. Eventually the website evolved to include networks of nationwide basketball camps such Point Guard College, Advantage Basketball Camps, and Breakthrough Basketball Camps. Recent additons have been Bini Sports Camps for HS Girls and IMG Academy in Florida. Presently our directory has expanded to include camps in Australia, France and Switzerland as well as Canada.
Where we're going:
Our initial mission was to establish an Internet presence for girls basketball camps. In 2012 we endeavered to begin a presence on Social Media sites through Facebook and Twitter. For 2015 and beyond we hope to expand in Social Media and to grow our website in order to provide even more information about camps in North America, Canada, Australia, Europe and other countries around the globe. We are also exploring transitioning to a larger mobile presence.
